Minyon Falls, Whain Whian
If you’re hankering for a decent bit of exercise, the Minyon Falls walking track is a great day trip. Take water, swimmers, good walking shoes, a light bite to eat and choose a good weather day. There’s a loop trail that goes right from the top of the waterfall and back. Study the map carefully in the park before you go. If you’re not up for the full 13km loop trail driving back down from the top of the waterfall to a parking area a bit lower down will give you half the walk and just as much of the experience. In mid-summer the sun is best on the pool in the morning, which becomes shaded in the afternoon. The track does involve a bit of rock scrambling towards the end and whilst the trail from the mid-point car park is mostly downhill, it’s uphill on the way back. The waterfall is breathtaking, swimming across the pool and being pummelled by the waterfall is quite an experience and a great photo opportunity. Alternatively, you can drive to the top of the waterfall, walk along a very short track and simply admire the view from the top.
Located 29 minutes drive, Minyon Falls Road, Whian Whian Forest.
