Killen Falls, Tintenbar
If you are blown away by the beauty of the Byron Hinterland wait until you see Killen Falls, not as secret as it used to be but still off the beaten tourist path. Perfect to go to after rain, it honestly is so picture perfect it reminds me of something out of a child’s Disney movie. The track leading to it is short and not too steep but rocky and a bit slippery in places so should only be tackled by those able to cope with a certain amount of unevenness underfoot. What awaits you is certainly worth it. The waterfall whilst small compared to Minyon Falls is perfectly formed, vines and creepers drape either side of the waterfall, lily pads float at the edges of the main pool and adjoining stream flanked by perfectly placed ferns and tufts of long grasses, turquoise butterflies flutter over the heads of turtles (if you’re quiet) sunning themselves on rocks, all to the sound of the waterfall. Worth taking a dip but the entrance is rocky and the pool has undefined deeper and shallower spots so should only to be tackled by the sure footed and capable.
