Clunes is the closest village to the cottage.  The Clunes General Store is a one stop shopselling food and general goods and it’s also a bottle shop and post office. 

The original village called Jasper was born after the clearing of the Big Scrub for cattle, it has recently taken on a new lease of life since the opening of Doma Japanese restaurant, which has become a popular pilgrimage from Byron. 

Another local village that has experienced a recent rise in visitors is the historic town of Newrybar, home Harvest restaurant and café, an equal drawcard being Newrybar Merchants across the road. 

A visit to the Byron Hinterland would not be complete without a trip to the bustling hub of Byron Bay itself.  

Mullumbimby is a medium sized town sat directly at the foot of Mount Chincogan, an ancient lava plug of the now extinct Tweed shield volcano and a dominating feature of the surrounding hinterland.

Located at the mouth of the Brunswick River and know as Bruns’ to the locals, this once sleepy holiday town has become increasingly popular and makes a great day trip for the family.

A significant town in the Rainbow region and of cultural significance to the local aboriginals, Nimbin is known for both its counter-culture and although not legal, its inhabitants open and obvious use of cannabis.
